Coaching and counselling are both supportive practices aimed at helping you improve your life, but they differ in focus and approach. Coaching is typically focused on helping you identify and achieve specific goals in your personal or professional life, exploring the practical aspects of your journey. During coaching, I work with clients to assess their goals, values, and needs and provide guidance and accountability to help them achieve their goals. Coaching is generally future-oriented and solution-focused, emphasizing helping you reach your desired outcomes.
On the other hand, counselling often delves into the spiritual and emotional dimensions of your existence. It is usually focused on the past and helps you address emotional or psychological issues that may be causing distress or interfering with your functioning. I assist clients in exploring their feelings and spirituality, gaining insight into their behaviours, and developing coping strategies to manage difficult emotions or situations. Counselling focuses more on past experiences, underlying psychological issues, and the spiritual journey, emphasizing emotional healing and personal growth.
Why is there a sweet spot that integrates personal counselling, life coaching, and spirituality, including modalities like energy and sound healing? We are the victim of fear, our ego, and our past experiences and how we feel is our reality. So why not shape our feelings and understanding to suit our needs and situation better? That's called emotional intelligence, and once you're aware of it, you can build stronger relationships and a fulfilling life based on authenticity, self-love, and alignment. However in order to do so, we need to each the body (not the mind) to feel safe, to feel, and to discharge emotions (energy) without judgement.
Our feelings, anxiety, and depression are red flags telling us that we have a problem, not only in our psychological realm but also in our spiritual journey. As we discover and work through what's behind these feelings, whether they stem from childhood or some way that you're abandoning yourself, you can build a vocabulary around your emotions and experiences and understand what they're telling you. We then translate this into meaningful and beneficial change not only in your practical life but also in your spiritual journey. We can only do this when we build a sense of safey within the body.
Sometimes, you lack that awareness, and there is a deep-rooted feeling that you keep showing up, and nothing is changing at all, spiritually and practically. You lack motivation, procrastinate, and always get caught up in the desire to be perfect, and shift back into old patterns. Here's where the coaching and counselling intersect with spirituality and holistic healing. I believe you can work with many talented coaches who will offer you practical solutions and hold you accountable for meeting your goals. However, as you explore the roots of your challenges, healing through trauma-informed counselling, and integrating alternative healing modalities to restore balance and calm to your nervous system, the therapeutic process becomes more effective. Moving forward requires the development of mental agility, emotional awareness, the regulation of the nervous system, and the maintenance of a spiritual connection—all essential components for achieving your goals and sustaining lasting growth.
